Thoughts from the Vault

Commuting on a bus gives me a lot of time to think, and I'd like to say that I worry myself with normal things like 'that stain' or 'those people at work', but unfortunately my brain takes a more stranger route to self-processing thoughts.

So yesterday on the bus I heard the classic song/poem by Johnny cash 'Ragged Old Flag' on my playlist, and it really got me thinking about nationalism. It dawned on me that even though we have flags to represent countries, never in the history of the world as one do we have a 'flag' that represents earth as a planet and human as a species.

This whirlwind effect of panic took over me as I sat there and thought sadly to myself that if aliens visited earth, we would start two wars; 1 with the space invaders and another with ourselves to determine which flag becomes the representation of Earth.

A lot of people I know would say America's flag would be chosen, but is that really fair? In the history of Anals of the future, where kids in 4023 are reading about Earth's first contact with outer space life, did they want to know that we all made war with eachother to determine a flag, or will they read that humanity united under one banner to show other lifeforms that we as a species for equally ready for them as one cause. It's an interesting concept considering there appears to be no exact flag for all of us.

Just an interesting thought.
